Overview

Flux (provided by Social Project) gives developers a highly extensible and customizable platform on which to build websites. This initial platform documentation is not yet finalized, but it does preview some coming features.

Custom Markup and Customization Coming Soon

Custom Markup technology allows community site administrators to customize the appearance of web pages, modules, and their elements. Custom Markup is based on the ASP.NET development platform. The development language and process should be very familiar to developers who have worked with ASP.NET, PHP, or Facebook platforms.

Virtually every part of the community site is customizable. Every page consists of the following elements:

Masterpage
MasterPage customization allows community administrators to change the location and look of the Menu, Quick Menu, Advertisements, Headers, Footers and Backgrounds.

Page Layout
Page Layout refers to the number and relative location of columns on the page. Community administrators can choose from over 10 layouts, ranging from simple (2 or 3 column) to sophisticated (magazine-like). Any other layout can easily be created by customizing the page layout markup.

Module Wrapper
By default, modules have a simple border and title bar with a graphical background. However, by using Module Wrapper Custom Markup, extensive customization of the module border and background is possible (e.g., rounded corners, transparency, etc.).

Individual Modules and Widgets
The most customizable aspect of a community page is the modules themselves. Flux offers over 15 preset modules (each with as many as 100 options), but if the desired look and functionality requires even more customization, Custom Markup can be used. The same mechanism can be used to customize widgets.

Interoperability

API
Flux offers a robust SOAP API for integrating and interacting with other platforms. Documentation for the most commonly used API portions is available here, here, here. Please email us at Support@Flux.com for more information.

Data Access API (RSS/Atom)
Every imaginable slice of community data is available via RSS/Atom API, offered in multiple formats. It can be used both inside the community and outside (for integration or outbound widgets and promotions). Data Access API samples are available here.

Google OpenSocial Coming Soon
Flux development is compatible with Google OpenSocial and offers standard container implementation, allowing community administrators or users to add social widgets to their pages. In addition to standard implementations, developers can benefit from data access and SOAP API to create truly sophisticated widgets.
