Social Distribution for Media Publishers Nowadays, it seems like everyone is announcing new social media platforms. But ours isn't your average, run-of-the-mill offering. Here at Social Project, we've been laser-focused on building a platform with real purpose and real technology behind it. We aspire to provide media publishers with the services and technology to increase user engagement, content distribution, and monetization.


How does the Flux Platform help publishers? Flux provides services and technology that enable media publishers to take advantage of social behavior on the web, including user-driven distribution of content anywhere and everywhere. We are committed to being open and completely accessible to users, publishers, and third-party application developers. The Internet is a network of networks. We strive to enable publishers to harness user-driven social distribution of content everywhere – on and off the Flux Platform. Publishers own their user data and control monetization. We just facilitate the distribution. Our publisher partners are rich-content providers (large and small). We have lowered the barrier to joining a new partner site, by enabling one-click login for Flux members. As users join sites, their profile, friends, and collected media travel with them, exposing them and other users to new content along the way.


What's inside the Flux Platform and why is it different? As we started thinking about building a social distribution platform for media publishers, we immediately recognized that no single solution would meet every publisher's unique needs. Some publishers might benefit from a fully-featured social network, but others might just need lightweight social tools to essentially 'bolt onto' their already content-rich website. Bloggers are a perfect example of media publishers who can benefit from a lightweight solution. Bloggers already have built-in communities – they just need assorted social tools to allow their community members to establish identity, communicate, and share their content. Different social media strokes for different folks. That is an important reason why the Flux Platform will be comprised of three separate product offerings: Flux Sharing Widget (fShare for short), Flux Lite, and Flux Custom. Each of these product lines is completely modular, so that you can mix and match our social components to meet your business and audience needs. And the best part is - it's all free! Here's a rundown of the Flux Platform offering: fShare Get a taste of our platform by trying out fShare. fShare is a simple sharing widget that publishers can drop onto their website or blog. In just a few minutes, publishers can enable users to simply click a button and share content in multiple ways: by email, embed code, or directly to popular social web destinations like Facebook, MySpace, Blogger, LiveJournal, and any of our own Flux-powered Communities. Whenever content is shared, we always attribute it back to the originating media publisher, and we drive traffic back to that publisher at every opportunity – so that publishers can maximize monetization while encouraging viral distribution. Flux Lite This is our lighter offering, designed especially for bloggers, but it's also a flexible tool for any media publisher looking to add a layer of social media functionality to their site, without necessarily transforming it into a full-featured, soup-to-nuts social network. With Flux Lite, publishers can add powerful social media features like User Profiles and fShare in just a few minutes, giving their users actual identity and presence and providing just the right amount of social networking functionality to dramatically increase content engagement and distribution. Flux Lite includes the following social components, each of which interlock to drive social content distribution both on and off a publisher's website or blog:
Flux Members Online Widget This is a simple widget that publishers can drop anywhere on their blog or website. It dynamically displays visitors in real time. This widget is the entry point into the community: clicking on displayed user profile images links to the User Profiles that Flux will host, customized in the publisher’s own site design. Unlike Yahoo’s MyBlogLog, we give Flux Lite publishers User Profiles that match the design of their blog or website, that publishers can monetize, and that come packed with advanced sharing functionality that enable maximized content distribution. Publishers can add the Flux Members Online widget by simply dropping a code snippet onto their site, and colors and layout can be customized at any time.

Flux User Profiles With Flux Lite, publishers immediately get fully hosted Flux User Profiles that can be skinned to match the look-and-feel of the publisher's website or blog, and that provide advanced, turnkey features aimed at driving social distribution of content. Flux User Profiles combine traditional social networking features found on sites like MySpace and Facebook – such as Widgets, Guestbook, and Recent Activity – with powerful new micro-blogging features found on sites like Twitter, Pownce, and Tumblr, making it easier for users to share content with their friends.

Flux Community Members Page The Flux Community Members page is also included with the Flux Lite offering. It aggregates all members of the publisher's community for easy and fun people browsing, as well as filtered searches by age, gender, location, or keyword. Like Flux User Profiles, the Flux Community Members page can be skinned to match the look-and-feel of the publisher's website or blog.

Flux Custom This is our most robust offering, ideal for publishers who want to add features like photos, videos, forums, blogs, events, news, and more. With Flux Custom, publishers can easily mix and match any of these features, or add all of them, for maximum functionality, customization, and social networking features. Publishers can build their own social network through our completely automated, self-service platform – either as a new standalone destination or integrated as part of an existing website or blog. Flux Custom offers publishers all of the Flux Lite features, including User Profiles and fShare, as well as a host of other social media options and tools:
Page Editor Publishers can use our Page Editor to create new community pages and edit page themes and layouts for supplemental sections of their community, including Community Videos, Community Photos, Video and Photo Content Detail Pages, Official Blog, Discussion Forums, News, Events, and more! Newly added pages are automatically skinned to match the look-and-feel of the publisher's website, making it easy for the publisher to quickly add new features.

Module Editor For publishers who would like to integrate a new social network into their existing website, we provide several integration options for the most cohesive possible community experience. Publishers can embed a variety of widgets directly into their current website, to serve as entry points tonew, Flux-powered community pages. The widgets can be customized by color and layout, and publishers who want to customize even further can edit the HTML markup through our advanced options (Coming Soon – see Developer Release).

Site Navigation Editor For even deeper integration, publishers can use our Site Navigation Editor to replace their current site navigation or add navigation to sites or blogs that currently lack it. The Site Navigation Editor provides a customizable navigation bar that allows multiple display and linking options for community features and functionality. This navigation bar can link to the new community pages on the publisher's site, so that users are always one click away from sharing content with their friends.

Content Moderation Publishers can choose from three different moderation settings to regulate the content that users can upload and share on their site: Safe for All Ages, Parental Guidance, and Mature. Flux will moderate user-generated content for publishers, at the publisher's selected setting.
