 About Flux
What is Flux?
Flux is all about sharing and discovering great content at the places where that content is actually being created. Flux brings community tools to some of the best sites on the web, allowing visitors to start connecting where they are already hanging out – on the site itself. Once you've joined one Flux-powered community, we make it easy for members to join more. Use your same Flux login information to join additional Flux communities, and bring your profile, friends, and account settings along with you. What is Social Project?
Social Project is the company that provides the Flux social networking tools and services to community web sites. Once you've registered with one Flux-powered community, you can use the same email address and password to join more communities – while bringing your profile, friends, and other account settings along with you. To fulfill that request, the community site will have access to the registration information you have previously provided, and may ask you provide some additional information. (In these FAQs, we may refer to a Flux-powered community you have joined as "your" or "my" community. Please also note: certain features discussed below may not be available on every Flux-powered community, or may be different from site to site.)
How do I get started?
Visit a Flux-powered Community and sign up. If you are a publisher interested in the Flux tools, please visit our products page.
Is there an age limit to sign up with Flux?
You must be 13 or older to sign up with Flux. Certain Flux-powered communities may impose higher age limits, so check their rules if you want to join.
Is Flux a free service?
Currently, there is no fee to participate in the Flux social networking service. The Flux social networking service is currently supported by advertising. Flux may offer paid premium services or offer other products or services for sale. In addition, owners of Flux-powered communities may offer premium services or other products/services for sale. Certain Flux-powered communities may be advertising-free and may prohibit marketing to such community's users; please be sure to review each community's privacy policies and other policies and terms and conditions, if such policies and terms and conditions exist, as they may contain more information on that community's advertising and marketing practices.
 Accounts
How do I access my Flux account?
Log in to Flux and visit a Flux-powered community that you have joined, for access to the "More" menu next to your display name (at the top of the page). Select "Account".
How do I change my Flux password?
Go to the "More" menu, select "Account", select "Settings", and look for the "Change Password" section. Type a new password, and type it again to confirm. Click "Change Password" to save changes.
How do I retrieve my Flux password?
If you have forgotten your Flux password, you may retrieve it by clicking the "Forgot your Password?" link available in the Log in box on the Log in page. Enter the email address you are using with your Flux account and click "Submit." An email will be sent to that address, containing your Flux password.
How do I change the email address on my Flux account?
Go to the "More" menu, select "Account," select "Settings", and look for the "Change Email" section. Type a new email address and click "Change Email" to save changes.
How do I change my display name?
Go to the "More" menu, select "Account", select "Settings", and look for the "Change Display Name" section. Type a new display name and click "Change Display Name" to save changes.
Can I create a personalized URL for my profile?
Yes. Your "Username" is used in your personalized URL. Go to the "More" menu, select "Account," and look for the "Change Username" section. Type a desired username and click "Change Username" to save changes. Before saving changes, you can click "check availability" to the right of this section, to make sure the unique username that you want isn't already taken by somebody else..
How do I change my profile picture?
Log in to Flux and go to your profile page. Click the "Change Photo" link available in the top right of the page. From there, you may browse for a new photo to upload from your computer, and then click the "Upload" button to upload and save changes. Make sure to click "Save changes" before leaving. (From your profile page, you can also change your profile photo by selecting the "Edit Profile Information" link, and then tabbing over to "Photo".
Do I have to sign up again for a new account, when joining another Flux-powered community?
No! That's the great thing about Flux. Once you have an account with one Flux-powered community, you can easily join any other communities that you visit. Simply log in at any Flux-powered community, using your existing Flux account information. If you have not yet joined that particular community, we will invite you to join. Just click the "Join" button and all your profile, friends, and other account settings will be made available to you on your new community. (Please note that each Flux-powered community may have its own eligibility requirements, so you will only be eligible to join if you meet such eligibility requirements.)
When I join one Flux-powered community, do I automatically join all Flux-powered communities?
No, you are only a member of the communities that you expressly choose to join. We do not automatically make you a member of other communities.
Why does Flux recognize me on a community that I haven't joined?
If you are logged in to a Flux-powered community that you do belong to, and then happen to visit another Flux community that you don't belong to, we want to make it easy for you to join. We recognize that you have a Flux account, but until you click "Join" you won't be displayed as a member of that community.
How do I quit a community that I've joined?
Select the "Communities" link available under the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page. Find the community you wish to quit and click the "Quit community" link. (Please note: quitting a community does not deactivate your memberships with other communities or Flux.)
What privacy options does my Flux account offer?
You can choose to make your profile private, which means that only your friends can view your full details. You can also choose to hide your online status or age from everyone, even your friends.

To make these changes, visit "Account" settings from the "More" menu at the top of the page. Go to the "Privacy" tab, and be sure to save your choices.
 Profile
How do I access my profile?
In most instances, log in to Flux, visit a Flux-powered community that you belong to, and then access your "Profile" settings next to your display name at the top of the page. (In certain communities, log in and click your username in the top menu, to edit your account.)
How do I manage my personal information (email address, password, username, etc.)?
In most Flux-powered communities, log in, open the "More" menu and select "Account." From there, you can manage your email address, password, username, and more.
Always use the Internet safely. Do not share your registration email address and password with anybody except your parents.
How do I change the layout of my profile page?
Click the "Customize Page" link available on the top right of your profile page. The blue "Customize Page Toolbar" will appear and "Drag and Drop" mode is enabled on all movable modules. You can reposition, add, and remove modules, as well as edit their display settings.
How do I change the profile data ("About Me", "Interests", etc.) or profile photo displayed on my profile page?
Click the "Edit Profile" link available on the top right of your profile page. From the "Edit Profile Information" section you can change the "Basics" like your location, tab over to "Personal" to add more details like "About Me", or tab over to "Photo" to change your profile photo"". Make sure to click "Save changes" before leaving. (You can also change your profile photo from your profile page, by clicking the "Change Photo" tab available on the top right of the page.)
Be careful not to post any personal information that would enable a stranger to locate you, such as your full name, email address, street address, telephone, using a display name that is your first name or initial and last name, or links to any web pages where your personal information is displayed. Also, do not post any information you do not want the general public to be able to view.
How can I add photos, videos, or links to my profile page?
While browsing, you can add photos/videos/links to your profile page by clicking the "Add to my profile" link next to any content you like. A module for each type of content will be added to your profile page (if it's not there already) with thumbnails/links to the stuff you add. In addition, anything you share or upload personally will automatically be added to these modules.
Always be careful when deciding what to add to your profile page, because it could be viewed by strangers.
How do I create a new blog post?
Select "Blog" available under the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page. Then click the "Create Post" button.
What is the ‘What you and your friends are sharing' box on my profile page?
This is the Flux "Share Feed" and it allows you to broadcast anything worth sharing, to all your friends in Flux. This means anytime you add something to your own Share Feed, it gets added to all your friends' Share Feeds.
How do I upload or add content to the Share Feed?
While on your profile page, first make sure the Share Feed is open by clicking anywhere on the "What you and your friends are sharing" bar. Then click on the "Share something now" bar just beneath it. From there you can search sites like YouTube for something to share, upload a file from your computer, or just type a message.
While browsing, you can add content to your Share Feed by clicking the "fShare" button.
Can I delete an item that I've shared?
You can delete items in your Share Feed by clicking the trashcan icon in the bottom right of each shared item. Please note that this will delete the item from your Share Feed only. However, if the shared item contained a piece of personal content that you added, that shared item will display as "No Longer Available" anywhere else it appears.
There is a comment on my profile page. How do I reply, edit, or delete it?
In most Flux-powered communities, log in and click your display name or "Profile" to manage comments directly from your profile page.
How do I stop someone's content from appearing in my Share Feed?
If you want to immediately stop receiving shared content from somebody, you can remove them from your friends list. You only receive content from friends.)
How do I upload a photo/video to a community?
See "Photos/Videos" section of these FAQs, below.
I uploaded a photo/video to the community, but it's not showing on my profile. Why?
When you add content, you have the option to add it to the community OR add it to your personal collection. The main difference is that content you add to the community gets displayed in the community's photo/video section and belongs to the community ("belongs" to the community essentially means that you can't delete the content, only the community can do that). When you add content to your personal collection, it belongs to you and will show up in your personal photos/videos sections, and in your profile modules. If content that you uploaded is not showing up on your profile, make sure you added it using the Share Feed bar on your profile page, to ensure that it displays on your profile page.
How do I quit a community that I've joined?
Select the "Communities" link available under the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page. Find the community you wish to quit and click the "Quit Community" link. (Please note: quitting a community does not deactivate your memberships with other communities or with Flux.)
 Discussions
How do I start a new discussion topic?
If your community has a discussions section you can create your own topics by first choosing a discussion category from the main page, then clicking the "Post a topic" button at the top of topics page. Please note: your topic must be approved by the community site administrator before others can see it.
How do I edit or delete a topic I created?
To edit or delete a topic you created, visit the topic page and click on the "edit details" link or the trashcan icon to delete.
Why can't I start discussions in a specific category?
Some categories are designated for official topics only, and controlled by the site admin.

You may also notice that some discussions are marked "Closed." This means that no new posts can be added to the conversation, but you should still be able to view existing posts.
 Friends
How do I add someone as a friend?
Visit that person's profile page and click the "Add as Friend" link available on the top right of the page. You will be prompted to type to a message with your friend request. You will not be added until the other member accepts the request.
How do I accept friend requests?
When you have a new friend request, you will be notified via your mail. To accept a request, you can access the "Friend Requests" folder in mail, open the message, and click "Accept." You can also accept friend requests from within your "Friends" section. Access the "Friends" section by selecting the "More" dropdown and clicking on the "Friends" link.
How do I remove someone from my friends list?
Visit that person's profile page and click the "Remove Friend" link available in the top right of the page. Or view your "Friends" page (available from the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page) and click the "Remove friend" link next to the person.
How do I block other members?
Visit that person's profile page and click the "Block" link available in the top right of the page.
I accidentally blocked someone. How do I unblock them?
Visit the "Blocked" section of your "Friends" page (available from the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page), find the blocked person, and click the "Unblock" link.
Why are friends from other communities showing up on my profile on a different community?
Flux takes your friends with you wherever you go, making it easy for you to bring your profile from community to community while keeping your friends list intact. This means that if you are a member of more than one Flux community, your entire friends list for all of your communities is still displayed everywhere that your Flux profile appears.
 Messages
How do I send someone a message?
To send someone a message, click the "Send message" link on the top right of their profile page. If you are friends with that person, you can also go to your "Mail" section, and click "Compose Message." You can then type the name of anyone with whom you are friends.
How do I check my messages?
To check your messages, click the "Mail" link at the top of the page next to your display name. The number in parenthesis indicates unread messages.
Why can't I send messages to some people?
For safety reasons, if you are over 18, you are not able to send messages to someone under 18.
You cannot send messages to someone who has blocked you.
How do I manage my external email notifications?
Visit your "Account" from the "More" menu, and select the "Notifications" tab. Use the checkboxes on the page to customize which notifications you'd like to receive. Click "Save" to update changes.
How do I report spam?
To report spam (or any other content you think is unsuitable for your community) click the "Flag" link next to the content.
 Photos/Videos
How do I add photos or videos to a community?
It depends on each Flux-powered community that you join. Some communities may allow photo and/or video uploading subject to terms and conditions (and always subject to our Terms of Use Agreement). Other communities may not allow photo or video uploading. Check the site navigation, features, and rules of each of your communities. As a general rule, if photo or video uploading is allowed, you may only upload content you own or otherwise have the rights to post on the Internet.

If photo or video uploading is permitted on a community, visit the main photos or videos section of the community and click the "Add Photos" link (or "Add Videos" link for videos). You have the option to search, upload, or import photos or videos. Once you have found the photo or video you wish to add, you must add it to a selected category.
How do I add photos or videos to my profile page?
While browsing, you can add photos or videos to your profile page by clicking the "Add to My Profile" link next to any content you like. A module will be added to your profile page (if it's not already there) with thumbnails and links to the content you added. In addition, anything you share or upload personally will automatically be added to this module.
Can I rate photos and videos?
Yes, select the thumbs up icon next to any piece of content to vote for it.
How do I edit a photo or video that I added?
If you are the owner of the photo or video ("owner" means that it belongs to you, rather than the community), you will see an "Edit details" link when viewing the photo or video on the content detail page.
How do I delete a photo or video that I added?
If you are the owner, you will see an "Edit details" link when viewing the photo or video on the content detail page.
How do I share a photo or video with my friends?
Click the "Share" button next to any content you like and you can share with all your friends on Flux Communities or on other places like MySpace and Facebook. You can also email the content to a friend, or grab the embed code to post the content anywhere you want to share it.
Can I add photos from Flickr?
Yes! Flux gives members the ability to easily search Flickr, preview photos, and then add any photos to the community or your Share Feed.
Can I add videos from YouTube, Google, Metacafe, and Revver?
Yes! Flux gives members the ability to easily search third-party video services like YouTube, Google, Metacafe, and Revver. Preview the videos, and then add any to the community or your personal Share Feed.
How do I report an offensive video or photo?
Click the "Flag" link next to the video or photo.
I uploaded a photo or video, but it isn't appearing. Why not?
All uploaded content in Flux goes through our moderation system. If you cannot see it right away, it may be pending approval.
 Flux Share
What is Flux Share?
Flux Share lets you post content to your Flux communities via the profile page Share Feed, as well as onto other communities such as MySpace and Facebook without having to actually visit those sites. Just click on the fShare button and select the location(s) to which you'd like to share the content. It's a great way to share your favorite blog posts, photos, and videos wit h friends (both on Flux and on your other social-networking sites). Not a member of a Flux community? We think you should check them out, but you can still use the fShare to drop off content at your other social destinations.
I tried adding content from Flux Share to MySpace and it didn't work. Why not?
We work hard to ensure that all options in the Flux Share work on a consistent basis. Sometimes a service will not work temporarily due to changes in the community's website. Chances are if the drop-off isn't working, we're already working on fixing the problem. You can still embed content by using the embed option in the fShare window.
I want Flux Share for my own website. How can I get it?
Visit Flux.com and sign up for a Flux Publisher Account to receive the Flux Share widget code.
 Privacy
Who sees my registration data when I sign up with a Flux-powered community?
Because you sign up jointly with the community and Flux (or more specifically, with Social Project, the provider of Flux), both the owner/administrator of your community and Social Project have access to your registration data. (Note: your community owner/administrator must have a legally-compliant privacy policy, before accessing your personally-identifiable registration data.)

Please see the Social Project Privacy Policy to review Social Project's practices with regard to your information. Please note that your communities may each have their own policies and practices regarding use of your data, so be sure to review those policies too.
Why do some profiles appear marked private?
When you see a profile that has been marked "Private" this means that the member has chosen to hide their full profile details from members who they are not friends with.
How do I change my privacy settings?
To make your profile private, or to hide personal data like age and online status, simply visit "Account" settings from the "More" menu at the top of the page. Go to the "Privacy" tab, and be sure to save your choices.
 Safety
I feel that another user is threatening or bothering me. What should I do?
You can block a user, so they can't communicate with you anymore. Visit that person's profile page and click the "Block" link available in the top right of the page. (If you accidentally block a friend, visit the "Blocked" section of your "Friends" page (available from the "More" menu next to your display name at the top of the page), find the blocked person, and click the "Unblock" link.)

If blocking the offensive user doesn't seem to help, you can also report the user. Go to the "More" menu and select "Help" to contact the community site administrator. Or you can contact us at info@socialproject.com.

 Deactivating My Flux Account/Communities
How do I deactivate my Flux account and all my community memberships?
If you deactivate your Flux account, you are deactivating your memberships in all of your Flux-powered communities. In most Flux-powered communities, to deactivate your Flux account, log in, go to the "More" menu, select "Account," and find the "Deactivate My Flux Account" section at the bottom of the "Settings" tab section. (In certain communities, log in and click your username in the top menu, to edit your account.)
How do I deactivate from a specific Flux-powered community that I've joined?
If you do not want to deactivate entirely from Flux, but just quit a particular community you have joined, log in, go to "More", and select "Communities." From there, you can easily quit any of your communities. (Whether or not you are registered with Flux, some communities may permit you to access certain features and services not powered by Flux. Please review each site's terms and conditions for more information.)
 Deactivating My Child's Flux Account/Communities
How do I deactivate my child's entire Flux account?
The Flux-powered communities are not directed toward children younger than age 13, and Social Project (the provider of Flux) does not knowingly collect information from children. However, if you believe your child under 13 has provided information to Social Project or created a Flux profile, please notify us, so that we can delete any personal information your child younger than 13 has provided and deactivate their Flux account. You can also deactivate their Flux account. If your teen is between age 13 – 18, they may use the Flux service but only at your discretion - so you can deactivate their Flux account too.

To deactivate, log in to your child's Flux account, go to the "More" menu at the top of the page next to your child's display name, select "Account," and find the "Deactivate My Flux Account" section at the bottom of the "Settings" tab section. (In certain communities, log in and click your child's username in the top menu, to edit your child's Flux account.) This will deactivate your child's entire Flux account, including any memberships in specific Flux-powered communities.

Or contact us at info@socialproject.com to request deactivation of your child's Flux account. For identity verification, please be prepared to provide your child's registration email address and password.
How do I deactivate specific Flux-powered communities my teen has joined?
Sometimes it may not be necessary to deactivate your teen's entire Flux account, but just deactivate their membership in a specific Flux-powered community. Log in to your teen's Flux account, go to the "More" menu at the top of the page next to your child's display name, and select "Communities." From there, you can easily deactivate your teen's membership in any listed community.

If you are concerned that your teen may rejoin the community, contact us at info@socialproject.com to request a permanent community ban for your teen. For identity verification, please be prepared to provide your teen's registration email address and password.

Whether or not your teen is registered with Flux, some communities may permit access to certain features and services not powered by Flux. Please review each site's terms and conditions for more information.

How do I contact my communities with comments or questions?
In any of your communities, log in, go to the "More" menu, and select "Help" to contact your community site administrator. You should also check your community's policies or terms and conditions for additional contact information that they may provide.
How do I contact one of my communities to report improper activity or technical issues, or for other reasons?
You should check the community's policies or terms and conditions (such as the community's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy) for appropriate contact information; and the community may also provide other ways to report improper activity or technical issues, or to ask other questions.

How do I report copyright infringements?
We take protection of copyrights, both our own and others, very seriously. If you believe that material you found on a Flux-powered website infringes copyrights, you can report it by following the procedures in the copyright compliance policy posted at the site where you found the material. In most instances, you will be directed to Social Project's Copyright Compliance Policy for directions. Some communities may direct you to their own policy.
